Latest Breyer Creation

Even though I am an artist in the northern VA area, I have had the priviledge of creating breyers for people all over the US.
This pretty grey gelding's name is Hundred. :-) I hope you like him! I think he's my favorite so far.

Portrait in Progress

When I do a portrait there are quite a few stages it goes through. I thought I'd go ahead and write about it, to help those who are not artists visualize the process.

Stages:

1. Preliminary drawing- I draw out the portrait on tracing paper first. It is much easier to erase on tracing paper than on canvas. Plus, any pencil will mix with your paint and grey it out.

2. Transfer to canvas. Notice how clean it looks.

3. Laying in basic colors, aka the "ugly stage". That painting will stay in this phase for a while before evolving into a recognizable piece of art.

4. Adding detail and form, background first.

5. Adding detail and form to the subject.

6. Adding the final touches to the subject.

7. After it's fully dry-- varnish it!

Wristlet Madness

So I got this great deal on designer fabrics from my yard sale rummaging and spent a whole afternoon making these super cute wristlets. Each one has it's own story. They all feature vintage fabric and an antique skeleton key. No two are alike!
You can purchase them on my etsy site.

baby bluebirds

They're almost ready to leave the nest! Today was the last day I could check them, without being worried they'd fledge too early. See their blue feathers coming in?

My Second Craft Fair

SO, I did my second craft fair in Culpeper this past weekend and overall it was okay, but I didn't do as well as expected. It just wasn't my target market, but I did meet some really nice people, and I also met some very "interesting" ones.

Even though I made little profit, I can chalk it up to experience and do better on the next event which will be an arts and crafts festival in Colonial Beach, Virginia September 13th and 14th. It will be my first juried show, so I am very nervous!
